DESCRIPTION OF THE EXHIBITION

“Angular Circle” is a series of paintings that explore new experiences, complex emotions, and pivotal moments in a child’s life. The idea for this series arose from the need to give a voice to the children we once were, the children we are now, and the children we have, for whatever reason, failed to let speak. In "Angular Circle”, the truth of experience is filtered through a child’s imagination - intimate situations take on epic dimensions, unnamed emotions pave the way to understanding, the world is a realm, and the journey an adventure; nothing is obvious, and everything is possible.

“I’ve been painting for as long as I can remember. However, I never attended any art school - I’m self-taught. I realised quite early on that painting is much more to me than just a form of creative expression; it’s an emotional outlet and a way of communicating with the world and, above all, with myself. At the center of my interests is usually the human being and what they carry within themselves. My art is largely self-therapeutic in nature, as well as diary-like. I like to use anthropomorphism, metaphor, symbol, and allegory, often in the form of dreamlike, fairy-tale parables. I am fascinated by what lies between the lines; I do not like literalism. I believe that art is a field of spiritual dialogue, and in engaging with its substance, I strive to be as authentic as possible - often even raw. I create primarily using acrylic on canvas, wood panels, or previously used objects. I love to paint in various styles, depending on the subject matter and the emotional temperature.” (Jan Mażewski)
