DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE
When the world is falling apart, we want to come together with our audience to seek out alternatives.
In the performance “Fucking Truffault”, Bliadski Circus Queelective listens both to the streets of Warsaw and to the stories and sounds coming from shelled Ukrainian cities. On stage, they comment on current events, becoming a space for the expression of difficult and sometimes contradictory emotions, filling the space with feminist content, drag humour, herstory, queer texts and self-deprecating humour. Bliadski Circus vibrates with freedom and celebrates diversity.
The French director François Truffaut believed that any form of discourse on war amounts to its glorification. Bliadski Circus Queelective, however, seeks alternative representations of war, posing the questions: Is critical art possible in an age when the whole of culture is reduced to a propaganda machine? How can we break free from the cycle of artistic reproductions of military discourse? Does society need theatre when kamikaze drones are flying overhead?
This is a story about transness, war and a different way of telling the tale of a terrible world. The performance grinds the form of cabaret, etudes, contemporary theatre pieces, video works and mini video-essays. It is a highly sensitive cacophony, quite daring, yet with a seriousness for the soul.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Bliadski Circus Queelective - a Ukrainian-Polish, feminist-queer theatre and cabaret group. The collective’s main forms of artistic expression are: firstly - cabaret as a response to the turbulent times marked by the war in Ukraine; and secondly - queer as a space of love, resistance and subversion, which allows for a radical transgression of the boundaries of bourgeois taste and patriarchal norms.
