DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE
Since the fall of 2023, we have been witnessing - in the media - the best-documented genocide in world history. Suffering, death, and images of the human tragedies of Palestinian children, women, and men in the Gaza Strip. “Lamentation” has become a place of mourning for a home, a place of vanishing landscapes, of life. It is a performance without words, because I cannot find them. It is a lament for a single human being, alone in powerlessness, helplessness, fear, and anger, on a small patch of sand.
“Life seems to be one eternal, never-ending day. A day filled with suffering and scenes of horror that you see so often they begin to blur together. Our new collective routine is listening, witnessing, sitting, walking amidst death.”
(Bahzad Al-Akhras, Gaza, Palestine 2024)
