DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE
The whole world comes together at the market (in Polish: “bazar”) - people, their dreams, loneliness, longing, desires, and fears. The voice of the radio station flows from the speakers, weaving a tapestry of stories and music around everyday life. Here, love hides among the eggs and canned goods, faith waits in a cardboard box labeled “items for donation,” and time stands still in an old Casio watch.
“ON (BAZ)AIR” is a humorous and moving musical monodrama by Rafał Derkacz, in which the actor embodies a kaleidoscope of colorful characters - from merchants and customers to ghosts of the past and dreamers gazing into the cosmos. He is accompanied by familiar songs, which, in new arrangements, become a chorus of emotions, a commentary, and the heart of the performance. The creators tell this story with a light touch and a flash of the grotesque, crafting a spectacle that is simultaneously a mirror image of contemporary Poland - full of contradictions, laughter through tears, everyday dramas, and great desires. This is not just a play about a market. It is a play about us - about the need for closeness, about loneliness, about the courage to dream, and about the fact that each of us is searching for our place among the stalls of life. Enter a world where everyday life turns into an epic, and ordinary commerce becomes a song about humanity.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Mikro Teatr - a foundation established by Anna Domalewska and Rafał Derkacz, who met in 2013 when they began studying together at the Department of Puppetry Arts in Białystok at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw. They love working together and expressing themselves through the art of the living form, which is why they created their own Mikro Teatr. Mikro Teatr launched its activities with two projects - “Nikt mnie nie poznał (Nobody Recognised Me)” and “Nazywam się Wojna (My Name is War)” - which they presented at numerous national and international festivals.
Agata Biziuk - director and playwright from Białystok. Finalist and winner of the Competition for the Staging of Polish Contemporary Plays (2016, 2024). To date, she has created numerous acclaimed and award-winning scripts and productions throughout Poland. In addition to her theatre work, she is also involved in film. She gained her knowledge in film directing at the Wajda School Studio, in the Studio Prób programme under the mentorship of Wojciech Marczewski. In 2020, she made her directorial debut with her original screenplay “Babcia mówi pa, pa (Grandma Says Bye-Bye)” as part of the TEATROTEKA project. That same year, she also directed the TV Theatre production “Kalina” based on a production by Teatr Nowy in Poznań. Also in 2020, she created the popular and award-winning web miniseries “#wakacje (#vacation)”. She is currently in the process of making her first feature film, “Żywie Punk (Punk Life),” produced by the Bardzo Dziki Wschód Foundation. She typically creates plays and film projects based on her own texts or undertakes far-reaching adaptations.
Rafał Derkacz - actor, improviser and singer. A graduate of the Department of Puppetry Arts in Białystok at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw. Since 2022, a member of the acting ensemble at the Capitol Musical Theatre in Wrocław. President of the Board of the Mikro Teatr Foundation. He made his debut in the graduation production “Tartuffe” directed by Paweł Aigner. He has collaborated with the Helena Modrzejewska Theatre in Legnica, the Municipal Theatre in Gliwice, the Lalka Theatre in Warsaw, and independent groups such as Teatr Potem-o-tem and Analog Collective. He has played over a dozen theater and film roles. Trainer at the Improvisation Academy in Wrocław. Finalist of the 37th and 40th Actor’s Song Review in Wrocław, winner of the Jan Wilkowski Award and the WARTO 2023 Wrocław Artistic Discoveries Award in the theatre category. He has twice received the Crystal Pestka - a journalists’ award at the International PESTKA Festival (2018 and 2022). Recipient of scholarships from National Institute of Music and Dance, the National Center for Culture, and the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
